Welcome to the North Yorkshire Coast Methodist Circuit,
This new circuit came into being on September 1st in an inspirational celebration at the Flower of May Holiday Camp, surrounded by many fairground rides, cars, organs and exhibits. The worship represented some of the variety to be found in this circuit. There is a staff of 7 presbyters, a deacon, a student presbyter and three lay workers. Together with the Circuit Stewards from different parts of the new circuit, we all serve 24 different places of worship.
The Circuit is the result of several years of praying and planning and conversation between Filey, Scarborough, Sherburn and Whitby Methodist Circuits. From Burton Fleming and Weaverthorpe on the Yorkshire Wolds in the south, through three beautiful coastal resorts of Filey, Scarborough and Whitby, a number of inland villages and a number of places in the North York Moors National Park, there is variety here. So too in the churches of the circuit, but everywhere the welcome is warm and in the name of Jesus Christ.
John Wesley visited Robin Hood’s Bay before he visited Scarborough but soon societies were formed. The local Christian heritage is much older and more varied than merely Methodism. Some of the circuit lies within the boundaries of land previously owned by Whitby Abbey, St Hilda formed a cell at Hackness. Rievaulx, Lastingham and Whitby all lie close at hand.
Whilst an awareness of the tradition is awe inspiring and gives a sense of connectedness to the past, we shall never stand still. Exciting new work is developing in various parts of the circuit; ecumenical partnerships are developing, new forms of worship and Church are being explored and the world wide web suggests a further sort of connectedness.
Through this website, may we be aware of that connectedness, and if you wish to explore further, then we look forward one day to meeting you rather more than virtually,
Peace and Blessings

A re-match Table Tennis Tournament is to be held between Westborough and S
outh Cliff Methodist Church’s to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
The sponsored marathon lasting 12 hours will take place at Westborough from 9am to 9pm Saturday 20th October.
Last year the first event of its kind raised well over £2,000 for the charity.
A Coffee Morning will be held between 10am and 12noon at the same venue with cake stall, etc. so please come along and help support this worthy cause.
£1 entry fee including refreshments.
Otherwise call in anytime during the day and watch the action on the tables free (donations welcome, of course!).
South Cliff narrowly beat Westborough 12 months ago but basically it is a fun event with a serious aim to raise money for cancer research.
Friday 21st September 7.30pm-9.30pm
Hope Whitby are very pleased to announce we are hosting another Christian event at ‘The Coliseum’ on the 21st September called ‘RESTORE.’
RESTORE will consist of some well known Christian worship songs, led by the ‘Re-fuel’ band who are a fantastically talented up and coming worship band. We will also have a guest speaker who will be sharing their life story and how their faith has shaped their life so far. The night could also be a prime opportunity to pray for Whitby and the surrounding areas together. Continue reading

A prayer for the new circuit:
We offer this year as it opens before us:
Invest its ideas with your energy;
Invest its events with your possibilities;
Invest its encounters with your presence;
that in it, heaven and earth may collide and your Kingdom come.
We offer our circuit as this year opens before us:
Break down our self serving boundaries and build up our faith in you;
Break down our old ways and inspire new ways;
Break down our fear of change and instil your excitement and hope
that in it, heaven and earth may collide and your Kingdom come.
We offer each of our churches as this year opens before us:
Unite and enrich our communities with your love, forgiveness and patience.
Unite and enrich our relationships with diversity and similarity.
Unite and enrich our gifts and skills that they may be used to the benefit of all,
that in them, heaven and earth may collide and your Kingdom come.
I offer myself as this year opens before me:
Take me as I am and break me – in my vulnerability;
strengthen me with your grace
Take me as I am and mould me – in my pliability, fashion me to be like you.
Take me as I am and replenish me – in my thirst, quench me with your Spirit
that through me,
heaven and earth may collide
and your Kingdom come.

at Northstead Methodist church,
collection in aid of the Rainbow Centre.
We will be featuring 2 of the Circuit’s churches each month, working through the 24 churches of the new circuit in alphabetical order (see plan). Thus we will cover each of the 24 churches in a year, providing a little information about each featured church and any specific prayer concerns that they have and so get to know a little about our fellow circuit members. This month we think particularly of Ayton and Briggswath and Sleights churches, next month will be the turn of Burniston and Burton Fleming. To do this effectively we will need your help to provide the information required. We will continue to include local, circuit and district wide events which will impact on the life of the circuit and will try to explain what these are about too. Please feedback any prayer requests and helpful suggestions or ideas and if something isn’t clear please tell us.
Thank you for your help
Love and prayers
