Happy New Year!

Start the new year by getting into the bible…

“The easiest way to memorize the Word of God online.”

The website LearnScripture.net is a great way of memorising scripture verses, and our family are really enjoying it. Sign up (click either the link or the image), and get learning!

Another great resource that a few of us use is ‘The Bible App’ and accompanying YouVersion.com website.

“A free Bible on your phone, tablet, and computer. YouVersion is a simple, ad-free Bible that brings God’s Word into your daily life.”

It’s very polished, you have a wide choice of bible versions, some of which can be saved for offline use, and you can highlight and bookmark passages, syncing between the smartphone app and the web version.

I'm doing Operation Christmas Child

By the time you read this the 5600 Christmas Shoeboxes which have been processed in our first ever Scarborough Warehouse will be well on their way to needy children in the Ukraine. Virtually every Methodist Church in our new circuit has supported the appeal and we cannot thank you enough.

We have been almost overwhelmed by the support for the project this year and especially we say a big thank you to the many volunteers who have helped in the warehouse, some of whom are not churchgoers. People have come some distance to help, from Sherburn, Fylingthorpe, Filey and even Pickering, in addition to Scarborough itself. Volunteers have done quite monotonous jobs such as sharpening pencils, re-covering shoeboxes and humping large cardboard cartons. I spoke to 2 ladies from Hunmanby who were enjoying sharpening the pencils and had even bought a battery operated sharpener for the job! The work has become addictive, some people coming day after day because they enjoyed it so much. One lady said “I don’t know what I will do when the warehouse closes!”

We have had much help from so many people and to them we are so grateful. David and Barbara Sutcliffe, together with Chris and Anne Kirkman, have ensured that the warehouse “ran like clockwork”. We had a visit from Ian Macleod, from Head Office in Buckhurst Hill, and he seemed impressed with what we were doing. Eon, Eddie and I were pleased to see again all our “Shoebox friends” as we picked up the filled shoeboxes around the area.

We are all looking forward to next year’s Shoebox collection with renewed enthusiasm and wouldn’t it be fantastic if we could say that every church in our new Methodist Circuit had filled Christmas Shoeboxes? We give thanks to our great God for enabling this year’s collection to be so successful in so many ways, and most especially to show to 5600 needy children that God loves them through the simple gift of a Christmas Shoebox.

Many thanks again

Eon and Ros Dyson, Voluntary District Coordinators.
