Circuit Prayer letter for April

The circuit prayer letter for April is available here, plus an exciting addition about the Singing for fun group at Seamer submitted by Jim Lawson:

“The prayer notes concerning Seamer Methodist church for April don’t truly reflect the value and importance which the Singing for Fun Group has been able to make towards the worship and spirit of this small church. God moves in a mysterious way He has certainly moved in this church since the SFF started in October 2013 Christmas at Bell Close, Christmas Dinner at Green gables. Fellowship and fun every Friday afternoon when the Sunday Hymns are practised. Preachers and Worship leaders enjoy coming to Seamer and are uplifted by the power of our worship through song and comment upon its value to them publicly.the handicapped residents and staff from Derwent house love to come along on a Sunday morning and sing along with us. Now we are starting to sing John Rutter music to further enhance our Sunday Services. It is so beautiful to listen to and to sing and worship with. Arising from the spirit which our Fridays has developed. We sing together we pray with spirit and meaning together we are becoming a united church with a spirit of the love and fellowship for our fellow members which is Christian and truly Methodist. All are welcome to come and sing with us. It is great to notice the support which we receive from St Martins Church members on a Friday afternoon. Arising from our SFF we now have our own Church welcome packs to connect with the new people and families moving into the village.”

  1. Singing for Fun at Seamer Methodist Church is successful due to the hard work of Doreen Lawson and her husband Jim. Doreen has been gentle with the new choir from the start and is slowly stretching us and giving us confidence, especially the members who have never thought of being in a choir. We have had a few comments from visiting preachers about our enthusiasm for the hymns they have chosen (due to the fact that we practice them on the Friday before) Doreen was a deputy head at Filey Primary School and took her junior choir to great heights in Yorkshire Schools competitions. I wonder if we are more difficult to train as the children! If you have never thought to join a singing group but would like to join us on a Friday between 2pm and 3pm it’s fun and we sing songs from a wide ranch of music and shows. Of course like all singing groups we are a bit short of men, do come along we don’t bite!
